Web Ahoy! [Aug. 16th, 2007|02:05 pm]
[Current Location |Home]
[mood |productive]
[music |Rio - Duran Duran]

So that's it, Kolton now have their own web site.

I just got the first version of the site onto

www.koltolliveband.co.uk

I'm going to upload more pics from recent gigs as soon as I get them from the people who were snapping away and there'll be a couple of mp3s to listen to and download as soon as I work out how and where to do it.

I want a gig and I want it NOW! [Jan. 25th, 2007|09:51 pm]
[Current Location |Leaving]
[mood | crazy]

The band I joined last June have done a few gigs, but we really need to be looking for more in the line of weddings, birthdays and other functions.

4 week's of practice nights over xmas were taken up in the studio putting down some tracks to give to prospective clients. The CD set list is:

Intro: Seven Bridges Road (S. Young)
1. Take Your Mama Out (Scissor Sisters)
2. To The Moon And Back (Savage Garden)
3. Love Will Keep Us Alive (P. Vale, J. Capaldi & P. Carrick)
4. I Want Doesn’t Get (J. McFadden)
5. It’s My Life (J. Bon Jovi, R. Sambora & M. Martin)

I would have loved to record Hotel California as I get a lot of twiddle time in it, but the concensus was that it was too long for a demo.

Hmm, I think a few Rock songs, some AC/DC and Rainbow, may get us a gig at Rock of Ages. Would be cool to play there then go get rocked in the Metal room. Yeah maaan, yeeah. Seen me playing guitar? You've seen me happy.

Ah, if only.... [Dec. 5th, 2006|07:21 pm]
Your Seduction Style: Au Natural

You rank up there with your seduction skills, though you might not know it.
That's because you're a natural at seduction. You don't realize your power!
The root of your natural seduction power: your innocence and optimism.

You're the type of person who happily plays around and creates a unique little world.
Little do you know that your personal paradise is so appealing that it sucks people in.
You find joy in everything - so is it any surprise that people find joy in you?

You bring back the inner child in everyone you meet with your sincere and spontaneous ways.
Your childlike (but not childish) behavior also inspires others to care for you.
As a result, those who you befriend and date tend to be incredibly loyal to you.

End of an era. Again. [Nov. 24th, 2006|06:10 pm]
[Current Location |Leaving.]
[mood | good]
[music |Steely Dan - Deacon Blues]

Just had a call from information central that Oblivion is not doing so well up at the University so Jeff is not doing it no more.

So everyone in Leeds must go!

Otherwise, the last couple of weeks have been rather nice. Met some nice current friends and, hopefully, made some nice new friends.

The band I'm in (Kolton - yeah shit name, but I didn't choose it) did our first full/paying gig on Saturday so my arrival to WH was just as late us usual, but without time to wander home and glam up. I brought along one of my new friends, Bibi, who thought the place was great and I think she's convinced her sister to get down to Oblivion too.

I met Bibi and her sister the night before in Big Bite after I'd left Subculture and she'd got out of Oceana. A nice chance conjuncture of 2 similar minds.

I'm off to Star now to conjugate some more.

How "Low" can you go? [Oct. 17th, 2006|07:28 pm]
[Current Location |Work]
[mood | mellow]
[music |Rush - Dog Years]

Subculture. That's how.

I got an enquiry after work on Friday as to whether or not I would be joining the rabble a Subculture and I decided that I would, but only if I couldn't get no satisfaction from going out in York. Well I wasn't satisfied for very long so I hopped on the train and hightailed it to the Merrion Centre.

There was no one waiting to get in so I chatted with Dave on the door for a tad before going sub. As soon as I had got my ticket I turn round to find about 15 people have followed me in. It would have been rather nice (never mind egotistical) to believe that I had something to do with that, but my sense of reality kicked in.

So did my thirst for JD. In fact there was no JD left by the end of the night and I know that's no coincidence. A few of people I knew from other clubs were there who didn't recognise me dressed normal.

Cycling home after and my cycle's rear de-railer decides to defect and smash through my spokes. So now it's back with the shop till Friday being repaired and costing even more. The nice gentleman at the shop informed me that as the part that failed was designed to do so to stop the whole frame being a right off, the manufacturer will not cover replacement as part of the warranty. What a swizz!

Any way, undaunted by failing technology I decided to keep my promise to "O" Sarah and attend her little souree for Saturdays. This time everybody recognised me first time. Angie introduced a couple of friends and much drunken talk of going to Machu Picchu, skydiving, NOT skydiving and various other adventurous subjects followed. As for JD, the cupboard was bare so, starting with Jameson's, I work my way to the Vodka end of life. I had quite a bit of catching up to do as others had already demolished/been demolished by some bottles of wine.

Must remember to take some survival manuals/comics in for replenishing the Men's walls. Whoever is defacing the SAS survival Handbook, STOP IT!! You never know when you're going to need a crash course in finding food in remote places whilst you're peeing up against the wall.

Another week over; a new weekend just begun. [Oct. 13th, 2006|05:15 pm]
[Current Location |Going...]
[mood | pleased]
[music |A strange clicking coming from the lights.]

Sorry to Mr Lennon for that bad bit of plagiarism. I think that admission just makes it marginal copyright theft now.

It's been a comfy week and, while work has just done what work does, there have been a few moments where I can say I'm pleased with what I've done.

Monday night's band practice really seemed to show how far we've progressed in the last few month's. Those little gigs have galvanised all the players in both our private practice and how we get things done together. No, we're not covered in Zinc.

Got a call from my big sis last night so she could tell me what I'm getting for Christmas. It's not even Halloween!! Mum wants me to do the family thing and join everyone over the period, but I think a Christmas in Montreal sounds much better. Among the many reasons I live in Leeds there's not having to be at home to celebrate a religion I don't follow. Madagascar sounds good too.

Apparently, Frankie is going top the Subculture tonight. I may go too if Cert 18 gets boring.

My Bedroom Has Shrunk [Oct. 11th, 2006|06:18 pm]
[mood | content]

Actually, the bed got bigger thanks to a kind donation last night. So I went to the local Morrisons and bought up a goodly haul of new bed linen, pillows and a duvet. I was a snug as a Lemur in a "new" bed and that's rather snug.

I've been sneezing my tail off all day as getting the room ready to receive it's gargantuan present required the moving of many boxes containing dusty books and re-organising furniture.

Bliss-shoo.

London calling for a long weekend [Oct. 3rd, 2006|05:27 pm]
[Current Location |Work]
[mood | good]
[music |Baker Street and Hotel California]

This weekend was spent, starting from Thursday evening, in London visiting friends.

Thursday was spent at a leaving party for a friend who's going back to the US. I met Tom when I was working on the East Coast Route Modernisation in Euston. He was officially the enemy, being a manager and from the company tasked with getting all the projects integrated, but we found a common love for real ale can break all kinds of work/social barriers down.

Tom is (and will always be) the chairman of the T2A2 Society, which is a dedicated group of pissed heads who like getting blotto in really nice pubs and visiting the Great British Bear Festival amongst other persuits.

The leaving do started, surprise surprise, a tour round the now closed Young's Brewery in Wandsworth and as we were some of the last people to be drinking in the bar there were a few more complimentary drinks going round than advertised. I got hooked on Ram Rod. Oh yeah, the tour was interesting too.

Friday was spent hanging round Camden Markets till my mate Matt got off work and we went back south of the Thames for tea. After eating it was off to pick up his lass, who I hadn't yet met, and try to find a nice place to continue imbibing alcohol.

After spending some time in a dreadful trendy bar called Revolution (specialises in Vodka) we headed for the Crobar. This used to be my local and is the mostest cool place going. Iron Maiden's Phantom Of The Opera was playing as we entered. One of the bar staff recognised me from my trip down last month and remembered to make all my JDs with extra JD.

Saturday afternoon was spent watching Tom abseil down the side of a building by the Thames on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Research and then drinking lots of ale to get over the shock! Ark called me about 22:30 to find out if I was in Leeds/going to meet up with him. I did try to catch a train back, but had totally forgotten that trains to Leeds stop at 18:30 on Saturday, so I made my way (via various interesting incidents) back to Tom's flat.

Sunday was another wander round Camden day before catching a train back to Leeds. I just didn't have enough time to visit and catch up with all the people I wanted to between creating hangovers and recovering from them. I will get round to you all. Promise.

Pat on the back [Sep. 22nd, 2006|05:06 pm]
[Current Location |Work]
[mood |productive]

Well aren't I a good boy? Last one out of the office. Again!

Just got one of my schematic files ready for release and signed off by the end user. They said the update is a real good job. I get the feeling from my boss that some of those guys are not easy to please so, as I'm doing some quite radical revisions, I can feel a nice tingle in my tail from that.

I've also worked out how to reduce the amount of disk space taken up by some of the schematics by about 80%. This stupidly fast computer doesn't feel like 80386 when loading, saving and manipulating those files any more.

Think I'll go and celebrate my greatness with some JD tonight.

All the bits come off!!! [Sep. 13th, 2006|05:35 pm]
[Current Location |Sitting]
[mood | (for now)]
[music |Savage Garden - To The Moon and Back]

So, yesterday I went and collected my new bike.

The wheels and seat are quick release, so I have to take the front wheel off and secure it to the back and carry the seat.

The shop says they have some mega-good locks coming in today. Think I'll pop over tomorrow. I've learnt the hard way that you can't have enough locking stuff. Still, a determined thief is going to get what they want whatever the security, hence I'm not buying the lock that weighs in at around 10k.

Spent all night doing set up of gears, breaks, handlebars, seat and lights. Just need a rack to carry my worldly goods (oh yeah and some insurance!) and the bike will be just right.

Actually, I think a little yellow smiley face bell would off set the somber/macho grey paint.

Going to the Fab Cafe to say bye to Bex as she's off to some posh uni down south.

Putting the Cycle of Life back together [Sep. 11th, 2006|06:06 pm]
I just put a deposit down for a new cycle.

It's a GT Avalanche 2.0 (2006) and, while I will always love my old bike, it's great!!

It seems the cycle season has reached it's own little cyclic point were all "last years" no longer fashionable bikes are being ousted by young pretenders, so I got a good deal. Actually I spent no less than I expected, I just got a fancier bike. Well worth nicking I should say.

Just have to make sure I don't get my tail caught in the spokes.

Now I have to run (leap) back to Leeds and meet the band at Carpe Diem. We are going to try performing a couple of songs at the open mike night. Any live practice is good practice I think.

I miss my bike. [Sep. 8th, 2006|06:09 pm]
[Current Location |York]
[mood | melancholy]
[music |NIN - That's What I Get]

Last night, just after posting to LJ, I left work and headed back to Leeds.

After leaving Leeds train station concourse I headed straight for the cycle rack to collect my little piece of freedom on 2 wheels only to find that someone else had had the same idea.

It turns out that a passenger had reported, just 45 minutes earlier, to the BTP that they had seen someone take some bolt cutters from a bag and make of with a bike. It was mine.

I spent dinner time today looking at new bikes and have come to the conclusion that I don't want a new bike, I want my old bike back, please.

The things that are now called MTBs are really just grown up stunt bikes for posers who want to pretend they're the Tony Hawks of the downhill world. My old Raleigh MAX is a solid built, go anyway, take loads of punishment and give a smooth ride kind of thing that manufacturers (even Raleigh) seem to have forgotten how to build without adding loads of gimmicky crap and a hefty price tag.

Having only just got back into full time work (2nd pay day today), I haven't had time to renew my insurance. So I guess I'll just have to put off buying a nice bed, to replace the one I've had for 19 years, for another month while I perform damage limitation on my lack of independant transport.

Anyone know someone in Leeds selling a Purple Raleigh Max CroMo with rack, chunky tyres and neat chrome skulls on the valves?

I'm going to Cert 18 to as Jack if he has any of that nice Tennessee soul medicine.

What do you expect? I'm Vegetarian. [Sep. 7th, 2006|06:27 pm]
You scored as agnosticism. You are an agnostic. Though it is generally taken that agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in God, it is possible to be a theist or atheist in addition to an agnostic. Agnostics don't believe it is possible to prove the existence of God (nor lack thereof).

Agnosticism is a philosophy that God's existence cannot be proven. Some say it is possible to be agnostic and follow a religion; however, one cannot be a devout believer if he or she does not truly believe.

Well I never thought i'd be doing this. Life is one long string of unexpected turns and garden fences to peer over. Now I guess I can buy one of those wonderfully sad LJ T-Shirts and feel the irony eating my ears.

Leap that fence.
